Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a print template?
A print template is specified by:
- An SVG file containing graphics to be included in the print template, such as logos and other marginalia, as a Map Enquiry custom file named printN.svg. The steps to create this are in the Map Enquiry Custom Files topic.
- MapPrint* settings specifying:
- The print template name (displayed in the Print dialog selector if there is more than one).
- The print size (e.g. 297,210 for A4, 420,297 for A3), optionally modified by the MapPrintScaleFactor setting.
- The print "photo" extents (the rectangle within which the plan is shown).
- The position and size of:
- The scale (when the size of the print is the print size, see below).
- The date (when printed).
- The title (and whether commas are converted to new lines) where the title text is specified by the MapTitleFormatSite or MapTitleFormatFloor setting.
- Optional fields whose values are specified in the Print dialog, each also specifying a field description.
Positions in these settings are relative to the print size, e.g. 0,0 is the bottom left corner.
When there is more than one print template, setting values for each are separated by | like this:
MapPrintName | A4 | | | A3 |
MapPrintSize | 297,210 | | | 420,297 |
etc. |
Printing considerations
Each type of browser implements printing in a different way:
- Chrome - Select the Print button in the SISfm Print Preview window to display the Chrome print preview window. In this, expand More settings, set Margins to None, check the Background graphics option to print legends correctly, and set Scale to a Custom value that suits (any scale can be entered). Chrome remembers these settings between sessions.
- Firefox - The Firefox Print Preview add-on must be installed. In the SISfm Print Preview window, instead of using its Print button, select Print from the Firefox menu (icon at top right) to display the Firefox print preview window. In this, use Page Setup to set all margins to zero, then select a Scale that suits (only scales in this pulldown can be entered). Firefox remembers these settings between sessions.
- Edge - Select the Print button in the SISfm Print Preview window to display the Edge print preview window. In this, expand More settings and adjust settings as for Chrome. Edge remembers these settings between sessions.
